Whether waking up at home or traveling I always like to have a fresh cup of coffee in the morning. This kit allows me that same comfort from home anywhere on the road, using what I think is the greatest coffee maker, the Aeropress!

The Aeropress, grinder, filters and thermometer all go into the waxed canvas pouch while the coffee and the kettle ride separately just thrown into my bag. The coffee could be separated out into ziploc bags and put into the waxed canvas pouch(there is space) for an even more compact kit, but I never see the reason to go through the extra effort.

The Aeropress has become my go to coffee maker, I even have the original Aeropress that I use at home every morning. The advantage of the Aeropress go is that you get the same awesome coffee maker in a compact form factor that includes a cup, a folding stirrer and a coffee scoop.

The kettle is only taken if I think that I won’t have access to hot water while I’m away, like if I’m staying at a hotel. This saves me from having to rely on some in room coffee maker that hasn’t been cleaned for hot water. Since the kettle on has on and off I also include a compact thermometer as well for measuring water temp. To me around 190°F is the perfect temperature for water when making coffee and the mini dash allows me to get this temp every time.

Something you don’t see in my kit is a scale, and that is because I do not weigh my coffee. I use the Aeropress’ included scoop to measure the coffee, I personally do not notice any variation using this method.

With the waxed canvas bag measuring 10”x7”x3.5”, about the size of your average Dopp kit, this coffee setup travels nicely in my duffle bag along with all my other travel essentials.

This has been my setup now for a few years and I have used it in many different situations, from week long getaways to camping in the Forrest. The Aeropress definitely hits way above its weight class in terms of being compact, performing well , being easy to use, and reliability.
