First off, I love watches!
I love the design, the function, the history, the style, just everything. Watches hit in me in the same way that I assume sneakers hit in sneaker heads. And I have a lot of watches……okay it’s only like 12 watches but still.
With all of that being said, what I did not expect to love was this watch.
Coming in at a price tag around $40 usd with a resin/ rubber bracelet digital screen and less features than any other g-shock, this isn’t exactly a “high-end” time piece, not even by Casio’s standards. But there is just something about this watch that ticks all the boxes for me.

The DW5600 features four push buttons at each corner of the bezel. The buttons are recessed enough to eliminate accidental pushing but I still find the buttons easy to press when cycling through the onboard selections, while out jogging or doing any other physical activities. The watch features an alarm, timer, back light and stop watch. This short list of features coupled with the size definitely makes this a “minimalist” watch compared to other G-shocks.

The size of this watch is one of the reasons why like this it so much. Other g-shocks are just way too big for my smaller wrists, but from the photo above you can see that the watch sits nicely on my 6 and 3/4 inch wrist.

With a 13.4mm thickness, it fits closer to the wrist than you would expect, and I have no issue sliding it under the cuff of a shirt or jacket.

This watch uses use a classic two-piece strap with buckle and tang hardware, probably one of the most comfortable watches I have ever worn. The band features a resin loop that keeps the excess strap nicely tucked away. Hidden out of view on the back of the strap are small notches that the loop latches onto to keep it from sliding down back towards the buckle( hands down, one of the greatest features of a watch that I have ever seen!)
Conclusion: If you need a watch that you do not have to worry about losing or breaking(not that it will break, it is a g-shock after all) you really cannot go wrong with the Casio DW5600. Few watches hold a place in history like that of the iconic DW5600. Worn by everyone from astronauts in space to military on the battlefield. The rugged minimalism of the watch lends itself well to everyday casual wear.
